The 2015 Tournament of Cookbooks -- Day 3

February 20, 2015

Welcome to The Piglet! Catch up on the full list of books and judges, score your own copies in the shop, and print out a bracket to follow along. Round 1 of The Piglet is brought to you by our friends at Squarespace

Today: We're on day 3 of Round 1! Head here for a refresher course on our cookbook tournament, and then read on for the decision. Be sure to comment there for a chance to get a copy of the winning book!

Shop the Story

Two cookbooks are out, and two have moved on. Between Smashing Plates and A Change of Appetite, who will join Heritage and Brooks Headley's Fancy Desserts in round 2? Iron Chef and executive chef at New York City's Butter, Alexandra Guarnaschelli, has made her decision.

Read her judgment here, and let us know what you think in the comments section. One lucky commenter will have a chance to win a copy of the prevailing book.

Cook the book: We are quite taken by the Kalamata Olive Gnocchi from Smashing Plates and the Beet and Carrot Fritters with Dill and Yogurt Sauce from A Change of Appetite -- both unique, flavor-forward spins on classic dishes. They also happen to be vegetarian. Cook along with The Piglet books and tell us what you think of the recipes!

For all those with "too many Greek cookbooks"...I am jealous! I have none, but do have an uncle who is a wealth of knowledge. Unfortunately, I can't get him to write down any of his recipes, so this is the next best thing! so excited to get this!

I'm a big fan of Alexandra Guarnaschelli, glad she's doing the review.
