Liking Peanut Butter & Pickle Sandwiches

March 12, 2015

There are those things we eat, make, read, and gush over that are just too good to keep to ourselves. Here, we resist the urge to use too many exclamation points and let you in on our latest crushes.

Today: We're slowly easing into the idea of peanut butter and pickle sandwiches. Katie Quinn makes a pretty convincing argument for them -- in video form.

Shop the Story

Our full-fledged peanut butter taste test resulted in some good, some inedible, and some still-mystifying combinations. One that left many with question marks was the sandwich of peanut butter, mayonnaise, pickle, and lettuce: Why did it sort of taste like a tuna fish sandwich? Do we want to eat it again? Maybe?

The journey to resolve how we felt about said sandwich involved some deep conversation, shut-eye contemplation, and soliciting friends’ assistance. Enter Katie Quinn, a food enthusiast and video journalist who has made videos for us over the years and whose YouTube videos are so fun and awesome (why can't we all be so bubbly on camera?). She is a fan of the PB&P and makes a pretty convincing argument in its favor.

Watch above and let us know: Did you grow up on these or is the combo of peanut butter and pickles just a little too quirky? And say hi to Katie -- you'll be seeing a lot more of her around here (not just because we really want to like peanut butter and pickle sandwiches).

You're missing the lettuce and mustard. Yum.

It needs cheddar. PB, sweet pickle, sharp cheddar, mayo if ya feel like it. Don't knock it till you try it!

My new favorite flavor(s) of gelato is/are raspberry and basil and blueberry and basil. One of the best places for gelato is right near my apartment, alas...

Always ate these growing up. I like to use the nice thick Claussen pickles.

I can't believe it! My dad always ate these late at night if he had missed dinner or something! As kids we thought it was just bizarre, to think he wasn't alone is just fun!

Toasted black eye, crunchy peanut butter and the cheapest (yellow) hamburger dills you can find. It's the best sweet and salty, soft and crunchy flavor / texture combination.

I'll also make a quick cucumber and onion pickle and put it with butter on toasted black rye.

I tried a few of these combos after reading that article- the pickle is a revelation (for an Australian at least). Delicious. The lettuce I would highly recommend as well, it's a great contrast in textures. Yum.
