Growing up in the Caribbean gives you zero sense of seasonality. Unless you count "really really hot" and "not that hot"—which is why living in the northeastern United States on and off since 2006 has been a particular challenge. I interrupt Christmas standards to blast Celia Cruz, Willie Colón and Hector Lavoe, Juan Luis Guerra, and the soothing sounds of my native wildlife to take me back to the balmy mountaintops, crystalline beaches, and humid rainforest I call home. The best way to complete the illusion? A few drinks with tiny umbrellas.
