10 Ways to Have (Coffee) Cake for Breakfast

January 18, 2018

We're unequivocally in favor of cake for breakfast, and while we'll admit that we've enjoyed a slice of chocolate-y layer cake first thing in the morning on more than one occasion, sometimes you want something that feels a little more breakfast appropriate. Enter: coffee cake. It's just right for a slightly indulgent start to the day.

And we can't say we're surprised to learn that the members of our Baking Club agree. This month, we're focused on Thomas Keller and Sebastien Rouxel’s Bouchon Bakery, and, as you can see in the photos above, the coffee cake recipe found in the book is shaping up to be a Club favorite.

We'd recommend picking up a copy (and joining us in the Club once you do)—it might be worth it for the coffee cake recipe alone, based on Paula G. Lefkowitz's review:

While I was taking the second picture of the cut piece my husband started eating. Every word out of his mouth was: “Yum.” “Oh yum.” “Really good.” I tasted and he’s right. THIS COFFEE CAKE IS FABULOUS AND FANTASTIC.

We wouldn't want you to miss out on enjoying cake for breakfast just because you haven't procured a copy of the book yet though, so here are 10 of our favorite recipes, from streusel-topped to chocolate-studded.

Tell us: What's your favorite slightly indulgent breakfast?
