I haven't made any of her recipes, but Lydia Bastianich seems to have a sprinkling of good looking Italian dessert recipes in her books, some of which are more traditional, and others which are more American/Italian fusion. There's a section on her site with some as well if you want to give some a try.
I usually trust Amazon's ratings overall, and a couple books there have very good ratings, including this one with desserts from Babbo (Mario Batali's restaurant in Manhattan).
I unfortunately can't help you out in cookbook realm, but the Best Italian Dessert Contest has some great recipes: http://www.food52.com/contests/128_your_best_italian_dessert
