Why are beans and grains separately when making a hearty broth because?

I'm not completely certain what you're asking here, but if you are talking about cooking grains separately when you want to add them to a soup made with dried beans, you do that because most dried beans take longer to cook than most grains. By cooking the grains separately you reduce the chance of them getting over cooked and mushy.
