Can I use all purpose flour for fresh pasta? I'm making egg pasta with homemade tomato sauce.

I have used AP flour many times with good results.
Only after i learned how to make pasta did I see recipes calling for 00 flour (very finely ground). Have not yet tried that.
Those who have used the 00 can tell us whether they think it preferable or essential.
