Each week, Cara Nicoletti of The Meat Hook is helping us get to know our favorite cuts a little bit better – and introducing you to a few new ones, too. Read on, study up, then hightail it to your nearest butcher.
Today: Who says turkey should have all the fun?
Turkey is all well and good, but there's something to be said for breaking from tradition -- for avoiding the stress of a dry bird and turning instead to a less traditional alternative on Thanksgiving.
So if you're fed up with the sea of turkey propaganda out there, or it's really just not your thing, or you haven't gotten around to ordering one and you refuse to buy a Butterball -- here are a few nontraditional roasts and friends from Cara that will still sit proudly on your holiday table. (In fact, Cara doesn't even cook a turkey on Thanksgiving: She roasts two chickens instead. So you do you.)
