Pre-Feast Nibbles, Snacks, and Bites for the Peckish

November 16, 2017

You may think that appetizers are "too much" before the culinary marathon that is Thanksgiving. This is where you are wrong—because if your family and friends are anything like mine, that assumption could get you in trouble for two reasons:

A) The food is never ready as early as you'd planned.

B) Everyone arrives at Thanksgiving starving, stomachs empty in preparation for the big meal.

These two things together—with some wine or big-batch cocktails thrown in—can have disastrous, hangry results. Thanksgiving is stressful enough. Give your guests some appetizers to warm-up for the feast, and no one will care one whit that the turkey actually needs another hour before it's go-time.

If you're not sure what exactly one eats before Thanksgiving, start with some of these hors d'oeuvres from our Thanksgiving Menu Generator (plus a few extras thrown in for good measure).
